Breaking the Metro Bandwidth Barrier
Optical networks represent the future of telecommunications. Billions of dollars have been spent on global-network backbones where 40-gigabit speeds are common, but the metro remains a challenge. This session will focus on the latest technologies that-when combined-deliver optical capacity in the metro, breaking the bandwidth barrier and enabling service providers to accelerate their revenues by reaching end users more easily and efficiently. The panel will examine the complementary roles of these technologies:
- The metro network landscape
- Fiber-optic cable penetration
- Free-space optics access technology
- Breakthroughs in optical routing and switching
