IP Networks Forum

Advances in Internet protocol (IP) quality of service (QoS) have led carriers to begin implementing IP services in earnest. In addition, softswitch technology has held out the promise of achieving cost efficiencies in the network, while opening the door to rapid and innovative service development. As IP communications continue to play a key role in the optical network of tomorrow, certain questions remain: Can carriers truly rely on IP to deliver the quality and reliability demanded by key customers? What broadband IP services will customers actually pay for? How do carriers bill for and make money in an increasingly data-centric network environment?

The IP Networks Forum @ SUPERnet is intended to help carriers make the move from IP theory to service reality. Key infrastructure technologies for the emerging IP network will be examined, as well as next-generation services, enabling architectures, QoS issues, circuit-to-packet migration challenges, and OSS imperatives for the emerging IP–based network. The focus of this forum is on the experiences and perspectives of real-world IP network operators.
