Management of Optical Networks: Challenges and Opportunities

This session examines the current technologies as well as the requirements and challenges for service providers to manage the operations of their recently expanded fiber-optic networks. Speakers will show how carriers are tackling the challenge of rapid network growth and the complexities of service management. An analyst will also examine the needs and growth areas for optical network management.

CHAIRPERSON:

Rob Gaudet, Director, Product Management, Meriton Networks, is mainly focused on designing and building next-generation NMSs. Mr. Gaudet has more than 13 years of experience leading architectural design and management teams of both embedded and off-board software development. He has also held positions at Nortel Networks and CrossKeys.

SPEAKERS:

Patrick Kelly, Senior Analyst, RHK, is a senior analyst for the Telecom OSS service assurance. He has 12 years of experience in the data-communications industry, primarily focusing on network management.

Juan Manuel Ramos, Director, Broadband Technology, Bell Canada, is responsible for designing and building Bell Canada's emerging ATM and frame-relay networks in Ontario and Quebec. Previously, he worked at Bell Nexxia, where he focused on Ethernet and VPN systems, and at Stentor Resource Centre, where he participated in projects related to the study of broadband access networks such as ADSL and cable modems.

Richard Whitehead, Vice President, Micromuse, has more than 18 years of broadband and base-band communications as well as specialized experience with network-management technologies.
