Advances in Broadband Wireless Access
Fixed wireless technologies offer great promise for more rapid and flexible deployment compared to wired alternatives. Recent efforts to offer services based on these technologies have revealed the critical areas of needed improvement to create more viable commercial offerings. In addition to enhanced modulation to relax line-of-sight requirements, new hybrid architectures combine the benefits of wireline and wireless technologies.

CHAIRPERSON:
Barry Sullivan, Director, Content Development, International Engineering Consortium, manages technical programs for educational conferences targeted at practicing engineers in wireless and other communication fields. Mr. Sullivan formerly led technology strategy for new-product development at Ameritech.
SPEAKERS:
Scott Bloom, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, AirFiber, was previously vice president of business development at AstroTerra Corporation. Dr. Bloom has also held several key positions at Trex Communications and ThermoTrex, both subsidiaries of Thermo Electron.
Pieter Van Rooyen, Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Zyray Wireless Inc., has focused on new-technology development in the areas of smart antennas and space-time processing to further enhance Zyray's growing product family since his successful establishment of the company's core development team in San Diego, California. He has filed 15 patents in the aforementioned areas.
Chris Paulen, Vice President, Product Management, Millimetrix Broadband, is responsible for the company's product direction, roadmap development, and product support. Previously, Mr. Paulen was vice president of network engineering for Advanced Radio Telecom (ART), a provider of local telecommunications services using a nationwide footprint of 38 GHz spectrum licenses.
John Santhoff, Chief Technical Officer, PulseLink, co-founded Pulse-Link in May 2000, merging Santhoff Technologies into the new entity. Today, Mr. Santhoff leads the development team at PulseLink in cultivating his vision of a highly integrated UWB platform for both wired and wireless communication.
