Advancing Packet Technology in the Core Network

Extending the capabilities of today's public wireless infrastructure to support applications beyond traditional voice services will have a greater impact on the core network than any other development to date. Interest in leveraging existing intelligent network (IN) technology is growing, even as plans to introduce Internet protocol (IP) technology are being laid. Successful migration to a packet-based core network demands thorough understanding of the technologies and the goals that they serve.

  • Applying IN Principles to GPRS/UMTS for Service Innovation
  • Evolution of 3GPP towards an All-IP Network
  • Softswitch in Mobile Data Networks
  • The Role of Mobile Data Management

CHAIRPERSON:

Ravi Ravishankar, Director, Advanced Technology Planning, Tekelec, has more than 20 years of telecom and network experience in Europe, North America, and Asia. His current focus is on defining signaling solutions and products for IP and 3G wireless networks.

SPEAKERS:

Tom Hamilton, Chief Technology Officer, ProQuent Systems, is responsible for overall technology direction and product development. Before joining ProQuent, he founded and served as the chief technology officer of Intelliweb Inc., a software start-up focused on developing a carrier-class IP services platform for mobile operators.

Dr. Parviz Yegani, Technical Leader, Mobile Wireless Group, Cisco Systems, is an expert in CDMA, TDMA, and other cellular multiple access technologies as well as internetworking technologies (IP, ATM, and frame relay). He is also intimately familiar with current and next-generation wireless network standards. Currently, as a leading member of Cisco's mobile Wireless Network Standards Group, he participates and leads standards activities in 3GPP2, TIA, MWIF, and IETF. He has chaired a number of working groups in various standards bodies focusing on 3G and all–IP packet data architectures and protocols.

Ravi Ravishankar, Director, Advanced Technology Planning, Tekelec

Janet Lind, Vice President, Engineering, Cyneta Networks, directs the hardware- and software-development teams through all phases of the product-development life cycle. She brings to Cyneta an outstanding resume of engineering-design and project-management skill, with more than 15 years of experience in engineering carrier-grade wireless infrastructure equipment. Dr. Lind was instrumental in building the company's development group and is leading this team to create innovative technology that provides dramatic benefits to carriers through intelligent management and control of mobile wireless data.
