CableLabs® is the R&D consortium for the cable-television industry. It is dedicated to helping its cable operator members integrate new cable telecommunications technologies into their business objectives. Current initiatives include developing specifications for the delivery of high-speed data, voice over Internet protocol, multimedia, advanced digital television devices, and interactive services, as well as establishing security protocols and continued support of an e-commerce tool for connecting retailers, cable operators, and service providers.
