Chicago, Illinois — In the long-standing DesignCon tradition of engineers speaking to their peers in terms the design community understands best, DesignCon 2003, presented January 27-30 by the International Engineering Consortium in the Santa Clara, Calif., Convention Center, will offer keynote talks of two seminal figures in the industry.

On Tuesday, January 28, Chris Malachowsky, co-founder of and Vice President for Hardware Engineering with Nvidia, will deliver a luncheon address at noon PST. In 1993 Mr. Malachowsky co-founded Nvidia, one of the premier manufacturers of graphics components. Prior to that, he was a senior staff engineer for Sun Microsystems and a manufacturing design engineer at Hewlett-Packard.

Mr. Malachowsky's talk, "The Visual Consequences of Moore's Law", will outline the implications of ever-advancing semiconductor technologies on computer graphics systems and the types of visual experience they enable.

On Wednesday, January 29, Dr. Ralph Cavin, Vice President of Research Operations for Semiconductor Research Corp. and an IEC Fellow, will give a luncheon keynote address on "Killer Applications for Semiconductor Technology: Implications for Design", centering on the functions and solutions that will help drive the future development of chip technology. This speech will take place at noon PST.

Before assuming his current post in 1995, Dr. Cavin served North Carolina State University, first as head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (1989-1994) and then as Dean of Engineering (1995). He joined Semiconductor Research Corp. for the first time in 1983 and served as director of design sciences research programs. Before that, Dr. Cavin was assistant head of research in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M University.

Registered DesignCon attendees may attend these keynote luncheons as part of their paid program. For more information about registering for DesignCon 2003, please contact Todd Dills, IEC Customer Relations, at +1-312-559-4610 or tdills@iec.org.

Presented annually by the IEC, DesignCon is the premier industry conference for the electrical and electronic engineering community, attracting more than 5,000 design engineers and managers, as well as prominent representatives of engineering's academic world.
